For consumers who want an HDTV that keeps pace with fast-action movies, sports, and game play, Sony BRAVIA V-Series Flat Panel HDTVs combine Full HD 1080p performance and Motionflow 120Hz technology for an amazing viewing experience. Motionflow 120Hz takes both high-definition and standard programming a step further by increasing sharpness and detail in fast-moving images for more fluid, natural motion. In addition, BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs use proprietary Image Blur Reduction technology to further enhance the picture for even better performance. The HDTVs also feature BRAVIA Engine 2 technology, which uses exclusive Sony algorithms to reduce visual noise and sharpen and enhance an already-striking dynamic contrast ratio. Additionally, they include seven versatile HD connections to ensure you get impressive image quality from all your HD components. Take advantage of four HDMI inputs, component and composite inputs, and a PC input, as well as a USB input that lets you play audio files from USB storage devices, or connect a compatible camera to your HDTV for a quick and easy slide show. Sony knows your home theater set-up doesn't stop with your HDTV, which is why the BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs are compatible with BRAVIA Link Modules -- including the BRAVIA Wireless Link, BRAVIA DVD Link, and BRAVIA Input Link Modules (all sold separately). Typical Sony product. Worked great right out of the box. Great picture and color. Minimum grief to set up with cable remote. Highly recommended.......
I purchased the 40V5100 but ended up with a Samsung LNB630. Here's a copy of my Amazon review of the Samsung: I will echo what the first reviewer, Rich Vergo said. Like he did, I initially purchased the Sony KDL-40V5100 (Sony's 2009 competition to the LNB630) and was fairly content. I originally thought about buying the Samsung LN40B650 but its higher price tag pushed me towards the Sony. I was pretty happy until I kept seeing the Samsung panel at a couple friends' houses. It didn't take too long to realized the difference between the two is so staggering I knew that I would not be able to live with the Sony set. Fortunately, I found the so similar B630 for the same price I paid for the V5100. I spent about three weeks experimenting and reading message boards to get a good configuration on the Sony. However, right out of the box the B630 image is breathtaking, to say the least. It's so crisp, the image appears three dimensional and the colors are so vivid. Like Rich said, in comparison to the B630, the Sony LCD's look like old technology. Everything I've watched so far looks way better; Heck, even the Direct TV guide looks better on the Samsung. If you are in the market for a TV in this size and price range, I would highly recommend it. Even if you're considering saving $100 or so on a cheaper TV, I think the difference in quality is easily worth the difference in price. You might also want to look at the slightly more expensive B650 series. It's clear panel will provide a little better picture but will reflect more glare. I went for the B630 because it was $200 cheaper than the 650. The difference wasn't quite worth it. I've only found two negatives so far. First, the buttons on the panel are not buttons at all but rather some sort of touch sensitive mechanism and it's almost impossible to see them unless you have a spotlight and get up close. This renders them virtually useless. Second, the mounting holes are too close together and located too much towards the center of the TV. My current mount isn't the greatest and the way the holes are setup makes the TV unstable. I will probably need to buy a new mount.......
Excellent TV. Could not be more pleased. Had difficulty with delivery, but customer service could not have been more courtious and helpful. 10 stars to customer service. ......
What a great TV. Ours arrived with the updated programming that turns off the contrast change, so we had no problems from the start with brightness. It has a great picture and the only brand, other than Sharp, to have a non-glare screen. Unlike others we looked at, this one is viewable from all angles, maintaining depth and color. Basically, after a month of use, we are extremely happy with our choice and definitely recommend it.......
We've had our Sony BRAVIA KDL-40V5100 40 inch flat screen TV for a month and a half now so i figure it's time to review it. I'll start by saying that as a kid growing up in Brooklyn in an age when there were no TVs yet, i spent evenings listening to The Shadow and The Lone Ranger with my dad. My dad remembered when there were no radios. The TV was delivered on time and the package had no dings or rips. The delivery people did a limited test to make sure it worked, although I had to tell them 3 times to select "Antenna" rather than "Cable". They couldn't believe that I was going to use it for over-the-air Broadcast TV. In a nutshell, the picture is perfect to my family and myself. Digital HD TV is a huge improvement in picture quality over analog TV and has lots more channels to select from. Regarding the complaints in so many Sony Bravia reviews about the dimming of the screen especially in DVD movies, we haven't seen that happen after a month and a half of use. We can't see it on Broadcast TV, Blu-Ray movies or upconverted DVDs. The picture is consistantly beautiful no matter what the data source. In fact, I never told my family about the complaints from so many reviewers about the dimming just to see if they could see it. They can't. They still don't know it even exists assuming it really does (i'm not convinced it does in the KDL-40V5100). Maybe in these more recent TVs Sony has eliminated the dimming? Anyway none of us can see it. Believe me, if it was happening my wife would notice it. Con. The only con we can think of is that changing channels is not the instantaneous event that is is on our older TVs using converter boxes. There is a pronounced delay when going from channel to channel. Minor to be sure, but you won't be quickly surfing from channel to channel. Other than that we can't think of any other glitches, large or small. Summary. Well worth the money and the angst of buying something so expensive over the internet. Yes, there was quite a bit of angst. My wife and sister couldn't believe i'd buy a flat screen TV from Amazon over the internet, but the whole process was smooth with no problems. ......
